What’s In The Box
The AC/DC Homegrow unit (solar charger and 1kVA inverter)
A battery box with a 12V 100Ah lithium battery
Two 150W solar panels
Six 3W indoor LED lights
Two 3W floodlights (IP65 rated)
A 12V light distribution module
What It Can Run
The inverter is rated for a total of 800W. It can run these, though not all at the same time:
- A small fridge or chest freezer, rated A+++
- An LED TV and satellite decoder
- A small hi-fi
- Laptops
- Wi-Fi routers and fibre boxes
- Hair clippers, small hairdryers and hair straighteners
It can’t run electric stoves, kettles, microwaves or heaters. Going over 800W will damage the inverter and battery, and it isn’t covered by the warranty.

AC/DC Homegrow Questions
How is the AC/DC Homegrow different from the i1000 HomeGrow?
Both light a full home. The AC/DC Homegrow adds a 1kVA inverter for 220V appliances, a bigger 100Ah battery and a second solar panel.
Can it run a kettle or a stove?
No. Kettles, stoves, microwaves and heaters use far more than 800W.
Is the inverter made in South Africa?
Yes. The 1kVA inverter in the AC/DC Homegrow and its solar charger are both made by Microtronix in Johannesburg.
Can I connect it to Eskom power as well?
No. The input is for the supplied solar panels only. Connecting any other power source can damage the system.
What happens if I plug in too much?
Keep the total load under 800W. Running appliances that add up to more than 800W will damage the inverter and battery, and the warranty won’t cover it.
