Display And Monitoring
The i350 has a full-colour touch-screen display on the unit. GSM monitoring is available as an option, so systems can be monitored and tracked remotely over the cellular network. The Department of Energy’s 2018 roll-out in Ngcobo used i350 systems with GSM monitoring.
The i350 Pre-Paid
The i150 Pre-Paid lets people pay for solar power as they use it. It works like prepaid airtime:
- The customer pays a local vendor at a point of sale.
- The vendor gives them a PIN.
- The customer enters the PIN on the unit, and it runs for 30 days.
Programmes can use it as an instalment plan or as a permanent rental.

i350 Base Questions
How many lights does the i350 run?
Eight. Six wall-mounted lights for inside and two floodlights for outside.
How long does it run and charge?
The lights run for 13 hours or more on a full charge. The battery recharges in about 4.5 hours of good sun.
What 12V devices can it power?
Small 12V devices like Wi-Fi routers and fibre boxes. It can’t run 220V appliances.
What's the difference between the i350 and the i350+?
The i350 is a home system with eight lights and six USB ports. The i350+ is a charging station, with 20 USB ports and two solar panels for charging lots of phones a day.
